Steve Mitchell, MSPT, owner, is a manual therapist who truly loves his job. With over twenty-five years of experience, he delivers a wealth of knowledge, experience, and compassion to his patients, staff and the doctors with whom he works. Steve enjoys the individualized attention he is able to give patients and the opportunity to teach and coach everyone he treats. He feels lucky to be working alongside a dedicated and experienced team of therapists.
Duncan Mitchell, PT, DPT
Clinical Director, Physical Therapist
Duncan graduated from the University of Saint Augustine for Health Sciences in San Diego. As much as he enjoyed the annual sunshine, his home is Portland. He has worked in multiple settings and with diverse populations, but is most drawn to the individualized approach of 1 on 1 care. Duncan enjoys participating in as many sports and outdoor activities as possible, with some of his favorites including cycling, baseball, skiing, volleyball, and hiking.
Justin Dunaway, PT, DPT, OCS, TPS
Justin received his doctorate in physical therapy from Youngstown State University in Ohio. Since graduation he has worked in outpatient orthopedics in Arizona and now Oregon. Justin has special interests in manual therapy, spine pain, headaches, and patients with complex chronic pain. Aside from working in the clinic Justin travels the country teaching manual therapy and chronic pain seminars to physical therapists. Lastly, Justin is the co-founder of STAND: The Haiti Project where he leads multi-disciplinary teams to their clinic in Haiti providing care to over 4500 patients per year.
Tarah Hoelter, PT, DPT, OCS
Tarah completed her physical therapy degree at Eastern Washington University. Tarah is a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy. She also specializes in women’s health and pelvic pain related to pre/postpartum issues. She utilizes manual therapy along with strength training and exercise in order to help her patients achieve their goals. Whether you are coming back from a surgery, injury, are ready to get out of pain, or want to move more efficiently, Tarah will definitely help you get back to your active lifestyle!
Brenden Thompson, PT, DPT
Brenden received his doctorate in physical therapy from George Fox University. He is a native Oregonian who has spent his whole life in the greater Portland area. He is an enthusiast for all outpatient orthopedic conditions and is always willing and ready to learn more as his experience grows. His approach to patient care is to encourage and empower with a positive and honest environment, in order to create a change in their pain experience. He believes that education is the foundation to making progress and getting people back to doing the activities they enjoy in life. When he’s not obsessing about physical therapy, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Gloria, going to the gym, or adventuring with friends.
Judy has over ten years experience with the physical therapy business. She has been a patient advocate for three years, working with insurance billing and accounts receivables. She enjoys helping our patients understand and best utilize their insurance benefits. Judy has taken many classes to improve her overall understanding in the ever changing coding and insurance guidelines. Judy loves to spend time with her grandchildren. She also volunteers at With Love Oregon children’s charity.
Front Office Specialist
Having received a certificate in medical billing, Marissa works at both locations doing administration alongside the office manager, learning the ins and outs of the billing portion of the business. Outside of work Marissa enjoys spending time with her husband, their families, and friends.

Born and raised in Portland OR, Christina received a Bachelors in Fine Art from PSU. Since graduating, she has served as a board member of a non-profit advocating for adults on the spectrum, taught early education at two Montessori and Reggio schools, and explored the legal sector as a legal assistant and office manager in family and injury law. She is excited to bring her experience to Mitchell PT as a patient advocate and office staff member. In her free time she enjoys yoga, pilates, photography, drawing, and exploring trails in the PNW with her dog, friends and family.
